So, I moved back home to Colorado about 3ish weeks ago and have been joining the several thousands of people across the country looking to re-enter the workforce.
Let me tell you, it has not been easy.
The job market was very different in Atlanta (where I moved from) and even Nashville (where I lived for a short period this year).
Short of working for $8 an hour at Target, I didn’t have a lot of options. I don’t have sales experience, so that cuts me out of the sales market, I have a 2 year degree but not a 4 year like most companies would like, and the experience I have the most with is Personal Assistant work, Mac Training, and Organizing an office that is in dire need of an intervention.
After banging my head against the wall enough times, I decided to try a different route. I sat my mom down (the one who is pushing me to get a “real job”– completely understandable) and we came up with a figure. What would we expect me to make if I were hired at a “real job” right off the bat? We decided $1,200 a month (clearing $1,000 after taxes) sounded appropriate. That’s 30 hours a week, making $10 per hour. Doesn’t seem like much, but it’s a start.
I made her a deal.
“What if I can come up with $300 in one week doing freelance work? That would be enough to cover taxes and the expected income.”
Her reply was, “Blake, I don’t care if you lead prayer at a McDonald’s and that pays you $100 a pop, you just need to get some income coming in.”
It was a deal, and we shook on it.
The experiment is running Thursday, March 25 to Thursday, April 1st.
I quickly created the affirmation “I have earned $300 unexpected income by Wednesday, March 31st at 10pm MST.”
I really have had no idea how I am going to come up with $300 so quickly, but I had the nudge to get organized with my paperwork so that’s one thing I’ve been working on.
I had made a “Skype date” with one of my dear friends in Canada, and about 2 hours before our set time, was wondering if I should be spending time talking to a friend when I really needed to finish my list so I could get to manifesting.
I decided keeping my word was the most important thing, and it’s a good thing I did. For almost two hours, we discussed Internet Marketing, Niche Marketing, and Affiliate Marketing online. All things I have studied and studied over the course of 2 years, yet have never actually tried.
I hadn’t even thought about Niche/Affiliate Marketing as an option. I decided to take everything in that he said, decided on a Niche and work from there.
I then received a nudge to give some of my money away. There is a Spiritual Principle– “the Law of 10″ that says when you tithe in the amount of 10% of your gross or net income, you will receive ten-fold. I have known about this principle as well, but have never really applied it to my life.
I recently had received a sum of $1,000 (what I’m living on and paying my current bills with until I receive income) so, following the “Law of 10,” donated $100 to an organization I love called The Orion Project that supports the research and development of Free (Clean) Energy Solutions.
It feels so good to give to a cause that I believe so much in! And it feels so wonderful to get my money in the FLOW again!
So, I officially have 5 full days left and lots of work to do. I’m excited, nervous and apprehensive!
For now– on Friday night– I’m off to a date with a cute guy I met recently at the 2010 Census Interview.
Life sure is good
